Welcome to the Java-OS/2

About tools: I don't like GCC/EMX but I think that it's dominance in
the freeware world makes it the tool of choice.

On IBM's port of Java: I put the likelihood of IBM releasing a
useable, cheapware OS/2 Java/HotJava anytime in our lives as 'as close
to zero as you can get without actually being there'. You also have a
better chance of seeing God than seeing source code from inside IBM.
Same applies for seeing M$ofts W95 or WNT Java/HJ source. My vote: go
for it.

On the subject of who does what: I'm happy to do whatever needs doing,
but ... I have spent significant time and energy comparing/contrasting
OS/2 threads and pthreads and OS/2 IPC with Unix IPC. I published an
article on each of these exact topics in DDJ over the last year.
As there's an obvious logjam at threads/IPC and a dearth of PM, I've
done some PM stuff, including printing, as well as some of the
wierd/mundane stuff like ini file manipulation, executable file
disassembly and OS version checking.

On SMART: never used it, don't see that it would be that useful. I say
bag it.

AS> Anything I'm forgetting?
This effort needs a Web page and a place to keep ftp-able current
source. Volunteers should publish their home page URLs, if any. Mine:
http://www.channel1.com/users/ajrodley/

How about we set a date by which volunteers will have downloaded and
browsed the source so we can intelligently discuss the assignment of
pieces to people?
