That may be one reason for choosing GNU EMX, but probably the
best reason for choosing EMX is that it is the best tool
for porting *nixish stuff to OS/2.
I suggested the DCE package because it has header files for
pthreads.  EMX doesn't have those headers or libraries.
So how would we go about porting that?

Also, what source for java are you guys looking at?
I got the Alpha 3 source a few months ago....I presume
you are all looking at something newer?

What GNU tools should I have installed on my OS/2 machine?
I have gcc, emacs, diff, rcs, gnufutil, gdb, groff, and perl.
Do I need anything else?
